Animal Shelter Thingie

I've been needing to post about this, and I was going to post it Saturday, but I got grounded! So here goes!

Sometime last month (September), at a big park about 45 minutes from where I live; there was an animal shelter event. It wasn't just the animal shelter that I volunteer at, but all the animal shelters in the big city near us (can't say the name!) were at this event. I can't remember the name of the event ):

Anyways, the animal shelter that I volunteer at brought 20 dogs! Including my foster dog, Jessica. I had Jessica on a leash most of the time, but when I went to the other shelter's tents, my mom held her, or I put her in her kennel in 'our' animal shelter's tent.

One of the animal shelters had a whole bunch of puppies! They were sooo cute! I didn't have my camera that day, so I don't have any pictures :(.

One tent there wasn't an animal shelter, but it was a wildlife sanctuary! There were 2 women, and 1 man at the tent. One of the women's name was Toni. She was the main person I think. Anyways, They had put a small cage out, and put a huge tortoise in it.

Anyways, I got to talking to them about how when I grow up, I want to start my own wildlife sanctuary. I helped them make some signs and taped them up on their tent.

We had two women who were very interested in adopting Jessica. One lady was going to adopt her in October (this month) or November (I can't remember which one). The other lady walked her around for a while, and decided to adopt her! She took her home that day. I was so sad. I had become so attached to Jessica, and it was very hard to let her go. I was really sad for a couple of days, and I really missed her. But I know that it's good that she got adopted, and now I can get a new foster dog!

When the Wildlife Sanctuary people were tearing down, and loading stuff into their van, I asked if I could help. So Toni and the other women handed me stuff, and I took it to the van where the man loaded it into the van. They were so nice, they gave me a free t-shirt (about their sanctuary) and a key chain with a stuffed animal wolf on it.

Before they had started tearing down, they had given some 'demonstrations' with 3 animals they brought. They brought a (not including the tortoise) Kinkajou, a Fennec Fox, and a Capuchin Monkey named Popeye!!

Info about Popeye:

Popeye is a 41 year old (!) Capuchin Monkey. His name is Popeye cause he only has one eye. When Popeye was just a little baby monkey, someone bought him as a pet. Monkeys do not make good pets. Why? Cause when Monkeys are about 2 years old, they turn 'mean'. They start biting, and they aren't as nice as they used to be.

When Popeye started biting, his owners locked him into a teeny tiny cage. Monkeys need to climb and have plenty of room, but Popeye didn't have that. The cage was so small, he couldn't even stand up! And when I monkey is hungry, you think they want banana's, right? Wrong. Popeye doesn't like banana's.

Whenever Popeye would try to bite, his owners would punish him by either taking his water away, or replacing his water with whiskey, which made him drunk and sick. Because he was in such a small place, and couldn't move around a lot, his bones didn't grow right. Now, Popeye can't jump, play, or climb like normal monkeys can.

That is why Monkey's don't make good pets. I felt so sorry for Popeye like everyone else there did too. But now, he gets very well taken care of. After everyone walked away (and Toni was still holding Popeye) I asked if I could pet Popeye, but Toni said not right then, cause other people might want to pet him too.

But later when I was finished helping them put stuff into their van, Toni remembered that I had wanted to pet Popeye, so she got him back out, and I got to pet Popeye the Capuchin Monkey!! He was scared, cause he thought I was going to take him away from Toni (of course I didn't!). It was so awesome. Adam (twin bro) was really jealous, cause the Capuchin Monkey is his favorite animal of all times! Poor Adam.. LOL

The next dog I wanted to foster was Shady. She was a sweet black Shepherd mix. Mom called dad, but dad wanted to take a break before getting another foster dog. :(

Last week, mom went up to the shelter to get Shady, and while she was waiting, she saw three adorable pit bull puppies in one of the kennels. She asked whoever was there if we could foster on of the puppies, and she said sure! There are 2 chocolate ones (one boy and one girl. named Hubba and Barnabiss), and 1 female tan one (named Yumi).

The puppies weren't spayed/neutered and didn't have a microchip yet. That was going to be done a few days later. Thursday, we were supposed to get a call from a women that worked there, and go pick up Hubba. But she never called! So.. We waited until Saturday after the adoption day we got her!

She is soooooo cute!!!!! She's just Amy's size. Amy does NOT like her. Hubba always runs up to Amy and licks her and tries to play with her, and Amy does not like it. Ranger just ignores the little pit bull.

None of my family or I like the name Hubba, so we changed her name to Emma. Emma learned the first day not to go into our kitchen or 'sun room' (where we eat). Saturday, she went to an adoption day, and normally we would get her back Saturday night, but she got diarrhea, and she had to get her stiches out, so we are going to wait and get her Wednesday (tomorrow). I can't wait! I miss her!

Here are 9 pictures of Emma:

i love this one! It's my background :)

Emma with a toy looking at me confused. She gave this look ALL the time. Everytime she saw something she didn't know what it was (or what we were doing) she would turn her head side to side with her ears perked up.

Amy finally played with Emma

Amy got mad at Emma for getting into her basket

Quickly catching up on things

Well, I need to finish catching up on everything that happened in August, so here I go:

August 6th: Stephanie and Allison came over one day and spent the night! That was a lot of fun. We got a piece of wood, and wrote on it 'No Swimming' and drew a person swimming and crossed it out. We wanted to go swimming and hold the sign up and take a picture. The other side of the wood, we wrote 'no diving' and drew a person diving and crossed it out. We ended up going swimming (the next day), but we forgot to get the sign, so instead we stuck it on top of the toilet. :D

August 7th, Me, Adam, Luke, Stephanie, Allison, and Luke's friend Craig all went swimming in our lake. It took forever before Craig got in. Me and Luke swam to where he was standing on the shore, and pulled him in.

After we finished swimming, Luke's two friends Jonathan and Lexi came over. We all hung out in the living room for a long time, until Stephanie and Allison had to go home. So Craig, Lexi, and Jonathan left, and Luke went with mom to take Stephanie and Allison home.

NEXT!

August 7th: That night, my mom and I went to a small theatre, and we were ushers! We handed out programs as people came in, and we got to watch the play! It was High School Musical. I think their performance was better than the movie! It was soooo funny! The person who play Ryan was HILARIOUS. After the show, the cast came out back, and everyone got to meet them. I got (I'll use their play names) Ryan's, Sharpey's, and Gabriella's autographs. :D I had a good time. :)

NEXT!!

August 8th: Well, since Crayon, Mikaela, and Polo (all the puppies I wanted to foster) got adopted, we decided to foster Jessica. :) Jessica is a 1 year old, brindle female pit bull mix. She (along with Ranger and Amy) is the BEST dog EVER! I want to adopt her, but mom and dad said only two dogs at a time *rolls eyes*. She is a little bit smaller than Amy, and is so cool. In the mornings when mom comes to wake us kids up, she follows her upstairs into our rooms and just follows mom everywhere around the house. Sometimes she can get VERY hyper, it's so funny. She loves Ranger and Amy, but Ranger doesn't really like her that much. She and Amy play a lot. I've taught her to sit, shake (with both paws *wink*), lay, and basically rollover. And I'm working on stay. I will post a slide show of her later. I also have several videos of her, I'll try to post later.

August 10th: I was walking Jessica by the lake (barefoot) when she jumped away and slipped out of her collar. I jumped after her, and my right pinkie toe hit a stump. I fell down, and quickly put the leash around Jessica's neck and put her collar back on. I was in a lot of pain (my toe). I sat out there for like 30 minutes before I finally slowly scooted on my rear up to the house which was kinda a long way to scoot. I didn't walk on that foot for like a week, and I figured I broke my toe. I didn't walk on it until you read another paragraph.

August 14th: My youth pastor's wife Andrea had her first baby Kaylee Grace *******!! She was born 10 days before her due date. The next Thursday, mom, Luke, Adam, and I went to see her. She's so tiny and cute!!!

NEXT:

August 16th: The animal shelter held a 'Pet's in the Park' thing at some place. They had a tent with things to sell, and they brought some of their dogs (we brought Jessica). They got k9 police men to come and do a demonstration. They had a dog sniff out marijuana in a car. It took him a while, cause there was a lot of people and other dogs around, and he gets a little bit distracted. I filmed that, so I will post it on here ASAP. The video is on the other computer (I'm on the laptop), so I'll have to wait till I can get on there. But a lot of people showed up at the 'pet's in the park' thing, and brought a lot of dogs. I saw soo many different breeds, and some funny costumes, I'll post pictures later.

They had a small dog show too. Only two dogs entered the tricks contest, and only one did tricks! LOL! It was pretty obvious on the biggest dog smallest dog. The biggest dog was a really fluffy Samoyed, and the smallest dog was a 4 month old teacup poodle in a tutu. She was so cute!

August 26th: At 9:30pm this day, my piano/voice teacher Mrs. Mica, had her first baby, Maci Renee ****. I haven't seen her yet, but I can't wait to see what she looks like. She was 3 weeks early. Her due date wasn't until September 14th.

August 30th (today): GUESS WHAT!?!? My friend and her brother (Luke's friend) live in Florida, and Luke and I are going to fly by ourselves to visit them!! We leave tomorrow, and will be back Friday. We will have to switch plans in North Carolina. I'm so excited. It's one of many adventures ahead of me.
One flight mom found would have taken us to Michigan, then to Flordia. CRAZY!!

I will take my journal with me on the trip like I did when I went to Utah, and write in it everyday, so I can tell you about all the fun I had on this adventure. Speaking of Utah, I still haven't posted pictures from my trip there. I need to do that.

I have to go pack, and do some stuff, so TTYL!!!
